KENDRA’S DIWALI  MUSICAL PROGRAMME  - 3RD NOV 2016
Kendra celebrated Diwali with a grand full day musical programme by Uma & Shailesh Entertainment Group.  There was no Yoga. The volunteers arrived before 9.30am in the morning to decorate the Hall and Tables and make all the necessary arrangements.
Members began arriving early and after signing in the Register and presenting their tickets, they took their preferred seats on the round tables. It was yet another houseful gathering with 330 members and guests in attendance.
Everyone arrived wearing smart dresses and colourful saris and then set down on the round tables which were decorated nicely. The Hall and the Stage, too, was beautifully decorated by the Ladies of Kendra. The programme started on time at 11.00 am and it was good to see everyone in a happy mood and enjoying the fantastic music. They sang some oldies and few new songs. The unforgettable tunes from the 'Bhuli Bishri Yadeein'.were highly applauded by all most of the time several people joined in clapping and even singing with the melodious tunes and several requests for specific songs were given and sung by the Group.  Their Swahili songs were very popular as the same brought back memories of our time in the East African countries. Many members joined in dancing to all their favourite tunes.
Water, crisps and Ferrero chocolates were served on the tables to all and some members also had brought savouries from home to distribute on their tables.  Everyone enjoyed these.
At 1.30 pm, a delicious special lunch was served to all within 45 minutes.  It included ladu', 'gota bhajia', 'khandvi' spinach puri etc. and this was highly appreciated by all and there was plenty to eat.  After lunch the music continued.
It was a special day for two of our members as they were celebrating their birthdays on the same day.  Induben Sobhagchand Shah celebrated her 75th birthday and Bhikalal Solanki (who had come from Southend on Sea) was celebrating his 80th birthday.  The Musical Group sang the ‘Happy Birthday’ song for them and everyone joined with them.  The Group also sang  “Barbar Ye Din aaye…….” song and gave both Best Wishes.
At 3.00 pm, the sponsored 'Kesar ice cream' was served to all.
We are proud of all the volunteers who put in a lot of effort to make this programme a great success and they deserve our heartfelt thanks. Well done.  We have received several messages in praise of the programme which was run on time and concluded at 3.30 pm
